Big Ol' Fat Stinkin' Curve Balls

Well, Melissa and I learned yesterday that even if (or maybe especially if) things are going too well, and if the sun is starting to come out for Spring, you still need to be ready for a big ol' fat stinkin' curve ball that totally changes the course of your life.

My acceptance into the Air Force JAG Corps, was contingent upon me passing the medical screening. We received a letter from the Air Force yesterday that indicated that I did not receive the waivers I needed to pass this medical screening. In other words, they cannot offer me a job when I graduate law school. I am still currently purusing a second opinion from a doctor which will enable me to submit my application for re-review by the Air Force, but honestly I'm not too hopeful that anything will change.

For whatever reason, Melissa and I knew that this course of action was the course we were supposed to take. Since we first started pursuing a job with the Air Force, we both felt that I was supposed to work for the Air Force. It appears that was not what Heavenly Father had in store for us. That being said, He did prompt us to accept a Summer internship with the Air Force, He did prompt us to apply, and later accept a permanent position with the Air Force after graduation. Perhaps the job I am supposed to accept was not open and would not be open until now. Perhaps we just needed time to think about our future without the burdens of a job search bearing down on us. Or perhaps we are supposed to settle down somewhere as opposed to the mobile lifestyle associated with the military. Whatever Heavenly Father has in store for us, I know that He is in control and that He knows exactly what He is doing. In the words of Hugh B. Brown, I can almost hear Heavenly Father saying, “Look, little currant bush, I am the gardener here, and I know what I want you to be. I didn’t intend you to be a fruit tree or a shade tree. I want you to be a currant bush, and some day, little currant bush, when you are laden with fruit, you are going to say, ‘Thank you, Mr. Gardener, for loving me enough to cut me down, for caring enough about me to hurt me. Thank you, Mr. Gardener." Hugh B. Brown, The Currant Bush, New Era January 1973. I don't know when, or how, or even where, but I know my Heavenly Father has this all figured out and will lead me to where He wants me to go.

On a separate side note, I (we) want to thank all of our friends and family for their love and support, we could not do any of this without you. We love you all.

Melissa and Caden

So this morning Melissa and Caden were playing on the ground (since we have 1:00 church we have a lot of time Sunday mornings). They wereboth sort of wrestling and playing Superman. It was a lot of fun to watch them and so I thought I would take some pictures (against Melissa's wishes...I love you sweetie!)

Maybe...just maybe, I can do this parenting stuff

So yesterday was the first day that I had to get the kids ready for the day by myself. I had to change the diapers, get them dressed, brush the hair, brush Caden's teeth, feed Caden breakfast and get them out the door for daycare. (You know all the stuff that Melissa usually does every day). Believe it or not, I actually had some extra time, like 30 extra minutes! I thought I would take a few pictures just to prove to everybody that I did it.

Caden's First Time Sledding

So I took Caden sledding for the first time yesterday/ I wasn't exactly sure whether he was going to like it because he would sort of whine a little bit even if I was just pulling him and his glove got snow on it (he can be like that sometimes). Anyway, we got to the hill, climbed to the top, and sat down on the sled. I decided I would take out my cell phone and film it, you know for posterity's sake. About two-thirds of the way down we hit a little jump that had been made, we crashed about 4 feet ahead. I thought Caden was going to be crying and upset, but he LOVED it and wanted to go again. We went probably 10 more times until a family with their two big dogs showed up; then Caden was done, "Don't let the dog get me dad."
